Labyrinth foam, unlike the regular profile of pyramid or egg foam, has an irregular / scattered surface. It delivers broadband NRC 0.80-0.88 absorption while also diffusing the wave, reducing echo and flutter-echo. Preferred where reflection control is critical.
What is labyrinth foam?
Labyrinth foam is an acoustic foam with an irregular pattern of cavities and ridges on its surface. This irregular geometry gives both absorption and diffusion: the foam works as an absorber and as a diffuser. In our practice we particularly recommend it on side walls and rear walls.
Technical data
- NRC: 0.80-0.88
- Thickness: 50, 70, 100 mm
- Density: 28-35 kg/m³
- Fire class: BS 476 Class 0
- Colours: anthracite, white, black, decorative
Where it is used
- Recording studios (side and rear walls)
- Cinemas (for diffusion)
- Music instrument rooms
- Conference / event halls
- Existing rooms with acoustic problems
Diffuser vs labyrinth foam
Classic diffuser panels (Schroeder, QRD) scatter sound; labyrinth foam scatters and absorbs. Professional studios use both in different positions; in small and mid-sized rooms labyrinth foam is a flexible single-product option.
