What is an environmental noise barrier?
An environmental noise barrier is a structural wall or screen placed between a noise source and the receiver (residences, hospitals, schools) to block the direct propagation path of the sound wave. With the right height, thickness and material choice, it delivers 30-70% perceived sound reduction.

Barrier design criteria

- Weather resistance: UV, moisture, temperature
Barrier types

- Absorbent-reflective: sound-absorbing fill on the receiver side — quieter back

Performance calculation
Barrier reduction is calculated based on source type, distance, height differential and frequency. In our practice we use SoundPLAN simulation for every barrier to map the sound; the dB reduction at the receiver point is calculated in advance.
