Wall sound insulation is a multi-layer engineering treatment applied to raise the sound-transmission performance of an existing wall. With vibroacoustic hangers + 60-80 mm rock wool + two layers of acoustic plasterboard at differing thickness + intermediate elastomeric membrane we deliver 18-25 dB additional Rw. In our practice, a 100 mm brick partition rises from 38 to 56 dB.
What is wall sound insulation?
Wall sound insulation is a multi-layer acoustic composite added to one or both faces of an existing partition to reduce sound transmission to neighbouring rooms. By the Mass Law, doubling the structure mass adds about 5-6 dB; correct design lifts that to 18-25 dB.
When is it needed?

How is it applied?
- Survey and measurement: wall structure, thickness, junctions; existing Rw measured.
- Design: composite section calculated for target Rw.
- Construction: vibroacoustic hangers fixed to the existing wall.
- Fill: 60-80 mm rock wool (min. 70 kg/m³).
- Cladding: two layers of acoustic plasterboard at different thicknesses to break resonance.
- Intermediate membrane: elastomeric (Tecsound) between the two boards.
- Corners and junctions: resilient tape + acoustic mastic.
- Final measurement: written report confirming the target Rw.
